Superflex Ranks: How many first-round QBs are too many?

First of all, if you have found your way to this page, congratulations on making a fine choice for your league settings.

Quarterback is by far the most important position on the field in actual football, but it can become an afterthought in fantasy in traditional one-QB formats. Replacement value is outrageously high. Superflex isn't necessarily a perfect solution to the various scoring issues at QB, but it's a respectable quick fix. It definitely forces us to take the position seriously in drafts, bringing this roster spot into the first-round conversation.

A certain variety of superflex manager will insist on using their first pick on the best available QB, then landing a second before the end of the third or fourth round. Occasionally, you will see a superflex draft board in which nine or ten quarterbacks are selected in the first.

I gotta say, that's just a bit too rich for me on the likes of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Bo Nix, mild no disrespect intended.

One of my inviolable rules in any draft is that I need to leave the opening rounds feeling that my team has a distinct edge somewhere. If you are picking in the back-half of the first-round in superflex, then your edge simply will not be at quarterback. Sorry, but that's the sad truth. No one ever said drafting was fair. There's zero chance that I'm gonna burn my first pick on the seventh or eighth best player at a position — certainly not at QB.

After the top-tier names are off the board, I'm pivoting to the receivers and running backs. Give me Bijan and Barkley over Baker, thank you very much. If you select the QB7 in the first, you will likely find yourself chasing at every position throughout the draft, never establishing a clear advantage at any spot. It's the quickest path to the consolation bracket, basically.

For those who are superflexing in 2025, here's the way I'd recommend spacing out the quarterbacks and flexes in the early rounds:
