Week 2 Fantasy Wrap: Jaxon Smith-Njigba takes the crown

A lower scoring Week 2 was highlighted by injuries to Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams as well as a hat trick from Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

• Smith-Njigba erupted for three more touchdowns, and he’s emerged as fantasy’s top wideout over the first two weeks. JSN hasn’t slowed at all with Drew Lock, and his 82-yard score Sunday was the longest throughout the league so far this season. Smith-Njigba owns a staggering and NFL-high 44% target share to open 2026.

• Jadarian Price lost a fumble in the second quarter and later suffered a chest injury, helping Emmanuel Wilson finish with a team-high 21 carries. Expect another frustrating fantasy RB situation in Seattle this year.

• Trey McBride can’t be stopped, but Marvin Harrison Jr. has run out of excuses.

• Caleb Williams went down screaming at the end of a run midway through the fourth quarter. He was crying while being carted to the locker room but reportedly left the stadium without a noticeable limp. Williams struggled mightily before exiting, but all that matters is the upcoming MRI.

• Colston Loveland, Luther Burden and Rome Odunze were fantasy busts for the second week in a row. Burden had more success with Tyson Bagent, and rookie Sam Roush was closer to scoring than Loveland. The Bears managed just three points one game after dropping 59.

• Aaron Jones Sr. was treated like a workhorse with Jordan Mason out and proved he still has some juice in the right matchups.

• There will be no QB controversy in Minnesota when Kyler Murray is ready to return.

• DeVonta Smith matched a career high with 13 targets, while Dallas Godert exited in the second quarter with a knee injury.

• Saquon Barkley is slated for an MRI after suffering a stinger early in Sunday’s game. Tank Bigsby would be the obvious beneficiary should Barkley miss time.

• Cam Ward was a top 10 fantasy QB this week thanks solely to two goal-line touchdown runs.

• An easy schedule has helped, but Bryce Young has looked terrific. It appears he can support both Tet McMillan and the emerging Jalen Coker, who combined for 19 targets.

• Few players in the league need a quarterback change more than Kyle Pitts Sr., but only game-script can slow Bijan Robinson. Pitts has as many tackles as receptions this season.

• The Falcons have yet to produce a single offensive play in the red zone through two weeks. Thankfully, Atlanta’s next three games are in primetime.

• Rhamondre Stevenson lost a fumble during the opening drive – his NFL-high 18th fumble since 2021 – resulting in the returning TreVeyon Henderson leading NE’s backfield with 16 carries, including a 39-yard house call. Henderson saw extremely encouraging usage during his first week back.

• Eli Raridon is a terrific keeper commodity and a future fantasy TE1.

• DK Metcalf managed just 27 yards on a team-high nine targets, as he struggled with drops and was blanketed by Christian Gonzalez.

• Jayden Reed suffered a potentially serious neck injury early in the game, while Christian Watson appeared banged up after taking a big hit late. Matthew Golden (who drew a long DPI on Sunday) and Tucker Kraft would be in store for a ton of targets should Watson also miss time.

• Kaleb Johnson and MarShawn Lloyd both fumbled, with the latter losing his.

• The Packers are the first team to win a game in the Super Bowl era with fewer than 200 yards, 10+ penalties and zero takeaways (teams were previously 0-38).

• Adonai Mitchell’s 12 targets were the third most in the league this week.

• Deshaun Watson outplayed Baker Mayfield and may not get benched for Week 3’s home opener after all.

• Denzel Boston had a beastly 55-yard touchdown and simply looked like the NFL’s best rookie WR this week.

• Quinshon Judkins is on pace to finish with 204 carries for 459 yards this season.

• Bucky Irving dominated opportunities, protected the ball and looked like Tampa Bay’s best offensive player by a wide margin Sunday.

• Injuries were to blame for Baker Mayfield’s inaccuracy last season, but he had no such excuses Sunday during an extremely shaky performance.

• Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka didn’t see a target until after the two-minute warning in the first half.

• Alvin Kamara finished with more carries and targets than Travis Etienne during his first game back in action.

• Rashod Bateman emerged as the clear winner with Zay Flowers out.

• Derrick Henry had only five carries in the second half of a game the Ravens led 14-3 at halftime.

• Ja’Marr Chase was off to another slow start before providing the catch of the year so far. He’d finish with two touchdowns.

• C.J. Stroud threw for 350+ yards and had nearly twice as many rushing yards as David Montgomery and Woody Marks combined.

• Dalton Schultz saw a league-high 14 targets with Nico Collins out, finishing as fantasy’s TE1 this week.

• Jaylen Waddle’s big game (10-8-138) could’ve been even bigger, but he was tackled at the one-yard line after a 49-yard catch.

• Bo Nix bounced back with a nice game, but Courtland Sutton will be a tough fantasy start moving forward after seeing only four targets against an extreme pass-funnel defense.

• Jonah Coleman entered the spotlight with RJ Harvey inactive and JK Dobbins leaving injured, and he gave off Eddie Lacy vibes. Coleman’s modest 14.8 PPR points made him the RB6 going into Sunday Night Football during a quiet week for RB fantasy scoring. The health of Denver’s backfield will be worth monitoring, but Coleman obviously needs to be rostered in all formats.

• Parker Washington saw a team-high 12 targets while Brian Thomas Jr. dealt with Patrick Surtain. Washington’s fantasy day could’ve been bigger, but he was tackled at the one-yard line. Still, Washington looks like one of the clearest “wins” when it comes to draft picks over the first two weeks.

• Ashton Jeanty walked off gingerly in the fourth quarter and had his right ankle checked but later returned. His status needs to be monitored.

• Tre Tucker had 110 receiving yards before halftime, while Kirk Cousins may hold off Fernando Mendoza longer than expected.

• Omarion Hampton lost a fumble and apparently puts ranch on spaghetti, but he eased some fantasy concerns while finishing as a top five back this week.

• Just imagine if the Chargers hadn’t recovered their first five fumbles Sunday! An 0-9 start suddenly isn’t out of the question given Los Angeles’ upcoming schedule.

• What if the answer to Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa was neither?

• Dak Prescott bounced back at home as expected, but Javonte Williams put up a dud despite a highly favorable game-script and matchup.

• Tom Brady let out an audible “shit” when he saw Jayden Daniels’ dislocated elbow that occurred during the final play of the first half. Daniels had 69 rushing yards before halftime and was in line for a monster fantasy game, but a similar injury essentially ruined his season last year. Ugh!

• Antonio Williams missed a wide-open Terry McLaurin in the end zone, while Stefon Diggs pulled down two touchdowns (the latter from Marcus Mariota).

• Two touchdowns saved Christian McCaffrey’s fantasy day, as he somehow managed just 2.3 YPC in a blowout at home against the Dolphins.

• George Kittle looked healthy while recording a 40-yard catch and leading San Francisco in receptions and receiving yards. Volume will be there with De’Zhaun Stribling out and Demarcus Robinson carted Sunday. Mike Evans also left with a hip injury.

• Malik Willis was completely shut down outside of a 77-yard TD pass in garbage time. Two rush attempts won’t cut it for fantasy managers.

Circa Survivor Results

After giving my buddy a hard time last week, karma paid me back in full in Week 2. I was convinced I had seen it all after losing Survivor with the Cardinals last season, but a two-hour weather delay knocking me out Sunday was a new one. One week after Tampa Bay had zero punts but bad luck with turnovers, Mayfield soiled himself during a so-called revenge game. This was certainly a short-lived segment this year! I’m now regretting spending as if I had already won the $25 million. We ride again in 2027!
