Week 3 Game Recaps: Jonathan Taylor emerges as fantasy's top dog

I made an epic DFS swap blunder Sunday morning costing me thousands of dollars, which I’ll further explain during that column later this week. Painful. Week 3 wasn’t the greatest slate in NFL history, highlighted by five blocked field goals and nine returned touchdowns. Moreover, some major injuries could have big consequences. Onto the Week 3 recaps.

Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans

• Jonathan Taylor erupted for three rushing touchdowns, and there’s a strong argument he’s fantasy’s No. 1 player moving forward. Taylor rested during the fourth quarter of a Week 1 comfortable win, but he’s otherwise owned the backfield of an offense that’s punted just once all season. He saw four targets on Sunday, and Taylor has been fantasy’s top scoring RB/WR over three weeks despite losing three goal-line touchdowns to Daniel Jones.

• Jones got 9.1 YPA and impressed yet again during his first road game this season. It was outdoors against a solid Tennessee defense, yet Jones easily moved Indy’s offense once again. Jones made a beautiful deep throw to Alec Pierce, who was injured during the catch that was later overturned. Jones has taken just two sacks all year and should be considered a top 10 fantasy QB rest of season, at minimum.

• Tony Pollard finally scored Tennessee’s first rushing score of the year, but the Titans have coaching issues

• Cam Ward threw a pick-six on the opening drive and is hurting the Titans’ pass catchers. It’s obviously extremely early, but Ward looks far more like a player to target in Survivor pools than a franchise QB right now.

Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars

• Trevor Lawrence is bad, and Liam Coen may not be able to save him. Lawrence has dealt with numerous drops, but he continues to sail easy throws and excel at inaccuracy. Lawrence posted a ghastly completion percentage over expectation (-17.0%) in the fourth percentile, and the tape will back it up. Derek Stingley left this game in the beginning of the second quarter!

Jacksonville’s offense looks far more influenced by passing game coordinator Shane Fraudron than it does Coen, who now has more duties as head coach. Either way, it’s very bad news for those who drafted Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter. It also takes some of the shine off Jacksonville’s running backs.
