Start and sit advice is league dependent and obviously comes down to alternatives. Week 1 brings extra uncertainty given all the offseason changes, as we have the least amount of information this time of year. Consider the following “plays” and “fades” in Week 1.
Quarterback Starts
Jordan Love vs. Detroit Lions
Love is playing through a left thumb injury, but it shouldn’t affect his passing. He should run more this season after dealing with a sprained MCL in Week 1 and later a groin injury last year. Detroit’s defense will look different Sunday after suffering a litany of injuries in 2024, but they have been a pass-funnel. Lions’ opponents averaged the fourth-most passes (35.6) and had the fourth-highest pass rate (62.2%) last season. Opposing running backs averaged an NFL-low 16.4 carries.
Rookie Matthew Golden looks ready to make an immediate impact, and Tucker Kraft is ascending. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks have been practicing on a limited basis and will hopefully be available. The Packers have a healthy implied team total (24.5 points). Love is my QB12 this week, ahead of Brock Purdy and Justin Fields.
